Although many of us spend more time indoors during the winter, this time of year is the perfect opportunity to start decorating the home so it’s even more warm and inviting, even if the weather isn’t. Not sure where to begin? Here are some tips and tricks for getting that perfect cozy feel.

1. Add Warm Deep Colors

Want to bring a feeling of warmth indoors during the winter? Warm, deep colors are the perfect addition to the home to get this feel. In the winter, colors like burgundy, caramel and charcoal with décor, pillows and accents will give you this feeling of warmth inside the home. These are easy accents in the home that can be swapped out when warmer weather comes.

When spring and summer comes, you can swap these out for brighter hues.

2.  Add Winter Fabrics

Fabrics are another easy, and temporary way, to add that warm winter feel to your home. Winter fabrics such as suede and mohair are great for giving that winter feel. Add pillows or footstools or other accents with these materials around the home. Tablecloths and placemats are another fun and unexpected way to add texture. A faux fur throw or blanket is another great way to add textured winter fabrics as well.

We love the textures that these fabrics bring during this time of year and it’s an easy way to bring a nice warm feel into the house.

3. Use Garlands Throughout the House

This is one of the easiest ways to help a home feel festive during this time of year. While many people assume garland is only for Christmas decoration, it can be used year-round. To make sure that your garland feels more like winter instead of Christmas, just include lots of greenery and maybe pops of red or pinecones to give the garland a hint of whimsical winter fun.

4. Bring in Some Bright Colors

While deep colors are going to give the home that nice warm, winter feel, it’s also important to make sure the home doesn’t feeltoodark. Bright pops like reds or winter whites, or evergreen can bring some balance to dark winter colors and prevent the home from feeling drab and instead help it feel cheery and bright.

Get a little creative with colors and accents during this time of year to bring that brightness in.

5. Use Antiques

The winter season is also a great time to bring in a little extra charm to the home. One of our favorite ways to do this is to use antiques as part of the decorating process. Antique decorative items, candle holders, blankets or holiday decorations are an easy way to incorporate antiques into your home’s current décor. It’s also a great way to showcase your unique design style.

6. Display Firewood

Nothing will help your home feel like a cozy winter cottage quite like displaying firewood in the home. No wood burning fireplace? Not a problem! You can still display firewood in a decorative container, stacked neatly with a piece of string, or get a fireplace wood display piece. If you have a wood-burning fireplace, it’s also a great opportunity to light a fire and keep your home super warm.

Either way, displaying firewood is the perfect way to add that winter feel, without it feeling like you’re decorating for a holiday. Not sure about bringing real wood into the house? There are plenty of faux and decorative logs out there that can help you get the same look if you don’t plan on burning them.

 7. Candles

Candles are such a great way to bring some ambiance into the home, especially in the winter. A great candle won’t only bring some much-needed cozy warmth and light to the home, but if you get the right candle, it can also bring a nice winter scent into the home as well.

There is so much to love about candles, the key is just finding the right one to bring the perfect luxurious scent into the home. There are plenty of winter and holiday-themed candles out there that are perfect for his time of year.

8. Use Branches

If you want a simple way to bring the winter wonderland from outdoors inside your home, then branches are an easy, cost-effective way to get this feel. You can use real branches or faux branches to get this look.

Place branches inside vases or on yourmantel to bring a hint of the outdoors into your home. If you want to add some real winter feel, consider adding pinecones or berries as well.

9. Layer Up the Throw Blankets

Throw blankets are one of the easiest ways to decorate for the winter season and help your home feel more warm and cozy as well. Consider festive or faux fur blankets to bring in the winter feel. You can layer blankets on your sofa or furniture, or create a pile of blankets in a basket to create a cozy feel. Throw blankets can add texture or color to the home and they are great for getting nice and cozy on those cold winter nights.

10. Use Winter Whites

While rich colors and jewel tones are great for winter, you can also go the complete opposite way when decorating for the season—and that is to use winter whites. Winter whites are an easy way to give you the same feel that a fresh blanket of snow will (without the chill). White furs, white throws, white faux florals or warm white candles to bring this feeling indoors.

If you’re ready to start decorating for winter, there is no better time than the present to start adding some of these unique design elements to your space. With a few add-ons throughout the home you can easily transform your home into a charming winter wonderland.
